To read any of the reviews, please click on any of the photos below and enjoy. Feel free to ask any questions. Post by Joy and Joe baby. The midnight rainbow SMP woven wrap is a strikingly beautiful cornucopia of paisleys and sugar skulls ornamented with some artistic fine details all intricately woven together in vibrant medley of pretty rainbow colours The double weave makes both sides of the wrap wearable. You can wear the other side of the wrap and it'll look like a completely different wrap. So let's just says the midnight rainbow is a wrap full of many pleasant surprises. Almost like you have two wraps in one wrap. Like our SMP noir, this wrap has a lustrous weave on the right side and a more textured feel to the odd side. Your wrap will be reaching you in a steam-finished state so it is ready to wear when it reaches you. The midnight rainbow was woven with an innovative strie effect which you will find in some hand woven stripy textiles with a graduated mix of colours. We used a black warp to give the medley of rainbow colours a sophisticated contrast. Hence, the black warp is much more prominent on the odd side of this wrap. With the double sateen weave, you get this silky shinning look that exudes so much beauty. The other side has a textured feel to it but it is not as textured as the SMP Noir/Aurantiaco/Marguerite. Remember that we mentioned that the SMP rainbow is one amazing wrap full of surprises, something else that we discovered is that this wrap is one of the softest double woven wraps ever. That is where the expert textile engineering of our weavers come into it. We worked with them for several months last year tweaking the textures, colours and structure of the midnight rainbow prototype to achieve what we currently have. Despite being a double weave, the thread count was reduced so this wrap is very soft, mouldable and wearable from the very first day it lands in your hands. With a GSM of approximately 255, the midnight rainbow is very floppy to touch yet very supportive. We then added a steam treatment to this wrap like our other sateen weaves to ensure that the weave is further relaxed and ready to wear. Pricing: Medium (£130) ,Large (£140), XL (£150) , XXL(£159). Pre-order will be open on the 22nd February, 2015 and wraps will be dispatch starting from the 29th March, 2015 which is approximately 4 weeks after the start of the pre-order. The pre-order process will be with a reservation fee of £30 that will also count towards the cost of whatever size you choose and there’s also a ‘full payment’ option for those who’d rather pre-order at once. Review outline
Hannah's review My review of the Joy & Joe baby SMP Midnight Rainbow woven wrap (100% Egyptian cotton, 250gsm) By: Hanna Welin (@hannastaaar) Hi! My name is Hanna. I am 24 years old and I live in Sweden with my husband and our 7 months old baby boy, our dog and cat (Powderpuff and Sphynx). We started our babywearing journey when our son was one month old because we were inspired by a friend of ours who wears her son, and also it seemed like a great idea to be able to wear our son come winter instead of getting stuck in the snow with our stroller. We started off with a stretchy wrap but quickly swapped it for a MT. Now, we have 2 MT’s, and 3 woven wraps and I have become quite the little wrap addict and I am also a sucker for skull patterns (our first woven was a Lenny Lamb Day of the dead) so you can understand my excitement when we were chosen to test this gorgeous SMP Midnight Rainbow. When I picked up the wrap from the previous tester my anticipations was really high, my heart was actually racing with excitement as I was already in love with the pattern. I have never even seen a Joy & Joe wrap before so I didn’t know exactly what to expect. What struck me the most when I opened the package was the vibrant colors! Pictures cannot really do them justice and I love the way the sculls stand out. I was really surprised when I took the first photos of it as it looked very shimmery in some of the pictures. I did not see it as shimmery in real life though but the colors really brighten up the room. The bag it comes in is really cute and you could actually use it as a bag in your everyday life since it is a real bag and not “just” a pouch. The wrap felt amazingly soft and my son cuddled with it right away. He seemed to really like it! We immediately did a quick testwrapping and I was very surprised about the grip it has. It is so soft and feels very nice in your hands but when you start to wrap with it, it holds your baby right in place, it doesn’t slide one bit. That feature also made it very easy to wrap with, I did a kangaroo carry with tie under bum and it was supereasy. That afternoon I tried my first ever backcarry! I figured it would be a perfect wrap for it considering the bullet proof grip it has and boy was I right. I got my son up on my back and he was sound asleep before I could even finish the tie. I made the seat with ease and the wrap pretty much did the job for me as it held him in place for me during the tie. I finished with a CCCB (candy cane chest belt) and it stayed perfectly in place. I must say I am really proud of myself, my husband wasn’t even there to help and it went so great. I could even untie him when I got tired and rewrap him in a kangaroo front carry instead and he didn’t even wake up. That definitely says something about the sleepydust this wrap comes with. It is flawless! During my three days I used this wrap a lot. I put all my other wraps aside and went all in with this one and it was up for the task. We did housework, cleaning and such, and we went for walks with the dog both short and longer ones, we used it at bedtime, where the sleepydust came in handy and neither me, nor my husband have had any pain or weariness in our backs/shoulders. I felt a teeny tiny bit in my shoulders after the back carry but I think that has more to do with the fact that I am not used to carry like that. I would also like to add that when you tie it, it stays like that. Exactly like that! I even felt like I could do a simple knot instead of a double knot as a finish (of course I did do a double knot at all times, safety first!). When I did a stash-shot I took the opportunity to compare it with my Solnce London Soho since that one is also made from 100% Egyptian cotton. I thought they would be quite similar to each other but there are differences. SMP Midnight Rainbow is a bit rougher when you compare them but that also makes it easier to tie with since the grip holds everything in place making the passes easier. And though it’s rougher it still is very, very soft and it is also easy to fold. I would recommend this wrap for everyone, beginner wrappers or experienced, this wrap is great for all. I do not know how it is for toddlerwearing though, but I can imagine it is good for that too because it made my 7 month 7.7 kilo boy weigh nothing at all. I wore him for hours during our photoshoot and didn’t even feel it. Also the wrap stayed perfectly in place the whole time so I never had to retie which is a big plus in my opinion! It looked great with a pair of jeans and I think it looks great with most color clothes. I mostly wear black and with an all-black outfit this wrap will really pop. It is a real eyecatcher! Oh, and it also looked great with my tattoo! The last thing we did was having my husband try it out. He loved it just as much as I did and he really liked the support it gave while wearing (and the scull pattern didn’t hurt, haha) and also we took some pictures when I wore it with the odd side out and in my opinion it is just as gorgeous on that side but in a different way. It’s almost like having two wraps in one since the odd side is much darker. My conclusion is that this is a great wrap and I would recommend it to everyone. We wished we could keep it but sadly it has now flown on to the next tester and we miss it already. Thank you for bearing with me, I know I can get a bit carried away when I’m excited wink emoticon Rosie's reviewtanja's review |

For those who are not familiar with our current weaves, we started with a plain weave with an embossed twill effect for our maxi-roses which was our first ever woven wrap. Then we added the bomb proof double weave to our collection. We used this weave for our first collection of shiver me paisleys last year. Can you remember the purple and gold, Jewel , clematis SMPs and others?
The plan then was to use a weave structure that will bring out the intricate details of such a complex design in all its glory. Our double weave was met with mixed reviews at the time because it was a completely new weave in the babywearing scenery, imagine a wrap without an odd side and having a double layer which makes it very toddler proof.
So it was a wrap that needed some breaking especially the wraps with our hemp-like linen. Based on these feedback, we decided to add a single ply weave to our collection and our sateen weave was born. Our SMP noir was met with an amazing applause, we love the fact that it came with such a beautiful sheen and a uniquely embroidered odd side which added an optimal grip for your woven wrap carry passes.
Then our double weave then became quite scarce because we only wove a few wraps with our rock solid double weave in 2013. So we released a few more wraps this year with our double weave with designs such as the elegant kente, celtic tileanna and kente. As our current wraps stock have mostly made their way to their new homes, we then started working on the next design in our archive and we visited the design studio of our other weaving house to discus product development.
Close to 30 different weaves were introduced to us and we had samples of each that we had to ponder over and test for a period of 5 months.
So around the time we chose our new weave, the sateen weave, we were introduced to a fantastic British artist, Chloe and she had worked on our luceo non uro wraps and we are very excited that she helped us draw one of our new designs as well. Those who came to carryon London event and those following us on instagram had a sneak peak of our upcoming rainbow SMP.
This will be woven on this new double sateen weave in addition to the new mystery design that Chloe worked on. This new design is so amazing, magnificent and inspiring. One of the main characters in this design is one of the most revered and admired of the Aves family in our natural world. Chloe worked her magic on this design and added a fantastic artistic concept that we know you will all love.
We will tell you more about this mystery design in our next blog post and we will subsequently show you photos when the weaving is completed. Note that we are only weaving prototypes currently. We must not forget to also add that we are currently weaving short runs of some selected colorways and exotic blends in our SMP and kente designs. You will be seeing a couple more ethnic inspired designs like our beloved kente woven wraps in 2015 as well. Please watch out for part two of this gist.
If you enjoyed reading our updates, please feel free to share this post and our other Facebook post with your friends. You don't want them to miss out. We often get people telling us that they had no idea when a new design was launched and things like that because facebook restricts visibility of many pages. So lets get the word out there :)
We are elated to be a part of the historical rejuvenation of the textile weaving industry in the United kingdom. You also get a chance to see where we hide when Joy and Joseph are enjoying school. Actually that is our office where your wraps are sorted into sizes and packaged. We would have loved to take the HSA film crew to Rochdale where our tailors work their magic on chopping and hemming your wraps but time didn't permit us to do so.
We appreciate the expert HSA film crew for the visit and a note of thanks to the very lovely parents who took time out to travel down to our Bolton HQ to join us. You need to pop over to the Joy and Joe chatter page to see some photos our parents took themselves.
It was a day filled with so much laughter, chats and learning. Sharing that moment with our children also added so much happiness to the whole experience. Its a day that we certainly won't forget in a hurry :) Click here to learn more about the highly sought after documentary.

Laura is one of our customers and she has done a review to compare the sateen weave of her SMP auratiaco woven wrap and the double weave of her traditional Moorish timbre woven wrap. This comparison will hopefully will useful to anyone curious about the different weaves we offer with our woven wraps. Enjoy your read!
Shiver Me Paisley Aurantiaco VS New Moorish Let's start by saying I absolutely love both of these wraps I got Aurantiaco in a size M and New Moorish in a size XL . I got both wraps in for about a month or so, when they got in I got so excited about both wraps Aurantiaco so shiny and my favourite design of all times . And the New Moorish stunning in its simplicity of design ( compared to SMP) but with the combination of black and blue yarn makes it look so luxurious . These wraps are so much nicer in real life then on the pictures ,SMP with his golden orange with blue and the "wrong "side looking a bit blue purple in the sun , New Moorish with light blue and grey and grey with black . Both wraps are with 100 % Egyptian cotton but they couldn't be more different in feeling just because of the weave structure. Aurantiaco with a Luxurious sateen Jacquard on the right side with a more textured weave on the "wrong "side slightly thinner as new Moorish. Love the "wrong side "of the SMP as well as I love the purple glow . New Moorish with his double weaves that made a double wearing wrap that has no wrong side A lot of knot making and wrapping going in this month :) |
Then the wrapping began.
SMP feels a bit thinner that makes it easier to wrap with as Moorish , but when wrapped with Moorish it sits like a house . And even with my toddler in strike I could do a bad wrapping job with New Moorish with a DH still he could not go anywhere and gave up the fight eventually and I had no trouble holding him on my back while he was trying to get out . No digging what so ever so the ultimate toddler wrap and that with 100% cotton I don t think you will find that in any other wrap.
I Love the texture of the SMP it gives so much grip so it will be easy to handle for every newbie that just started wrapping to. Compared to New Moorish that feels softer and smoother then the SMP from the beginning , but because it is thicker you will have to put some strength in it to make a nice knot.
I like to use SMP for my baby boy ,not so much for my toddler because of the sateen weave it feels thinner and with a thin shirt it will dig a bit , but maybe with a longer wrap and a DH knot and a non striking toddler it will feel different .
I took Moorish with me to the hospital when my baby boy got his groin rupture surgery and I was so glad I did we had to wait for 4 hours until the surgery that made 10 hours without him feeding because he needed to be sober for the anaesthesia don t know what I had done without this wrap I wrapped him and he fell asleep for the complete waiting time .
With New Moorish I got a nice surprise as it was my first Non SMP wrap from Joy and Joe and I fell in love with it , it Feels soft and so strong at the same time makes you feel so safe with you baby close to your heart.
Don't think Moorish is going to leave anytime soon but I am sure that my stash will get more wraps in it of these awesome designs of Joy and Joe .
Made a promise to myself to always keep at least 1

Our SMP auraniaco preorders have now flown to their new homes. The feedbacks we have been receiving from our customers have been amazing. We though it’ll be exciting to give the shimmery SMP Aurantiaco a sibling. You know how siblings can have different personalities yet share some family characteristics.
Introducing our new SMP Marguerite, woven with our aurantiaco’s residual yarns but we varied the weft by replacing the midnight blue yarns with arctic white resulting in a bright coral appearance. Marguerite is the French version of the name Margaret and in the Greek language, it means ‘pearl’. That’s the sort of feeling the SMP Marguerite exudes, the arctic white weft radiates something pure and precious..
Length: Length varies with size (Medium 3.6m, Large 4.2m, X-Large 4.6m, XXLarge 5.2m
Colours: Pumpkin orange and arctic white
Blends: 100% Egyptian cotton
Our post weaving finishing is done in Yorkshire and we have heavily invested in a special steam finishing that helps to further soften our wraps and then remove any weaving yarn residue. We then move our wraps to Rochdale where our husband and wife team of tailors then chop and sew our jacquard fabrics into your woven wraps.
So this is a wrap that has a lot of love, hard work and dedication woven into those fine details. We guarantee that you will be impressed and like our other SMP wraps, the SMP Marguerite is definitely a head turner :)
