THE MIDNIGHT RAINBOW SMP

1/23/2015

The midnight rainbow SMP woven wrap is a strikingly beautiful cornucopia of paisleys and sugar skulls ornamented with some artistic fine details all intricately woven together in vibrant medley of pretty rainbow colours
Picture
The double weave makes both sides of the wrap wearable. You can wear the other side of the wrap and it'll look like a completely different wrap. So let's just says the midnight rainbow is a wrap full of many pleasant surprises. Almost like you have two wraps in one wrap.
Like our SMP noir, this wrap has a lustrous weave on the right side and a more textured feel to the odd side. Your wrap will be reaching you in a steam-finished state so it is ready to wear when it reaches you.

Picture
The midnight rainbow was woven with an innovative strie effect which you will find in some hand woven stripy textiles with a graduated mix of colours. We used a black warp to give the medley of rainbow colours a sophisticated contrast. Hence, the black warp is much more prominent on the odd side of this wrap.
Picture
With the double sateen weave, you get this silky shinning look  that exudes so much beauty. The other side has a textured feel to it but it is not as textured as the SMP Noir/Aurantiaco/Marguerite. Remember that we mentioned that the SMP rainbow is one amazing wrap full of surprises, something else that we discovered is that this wrap is one of the softest double woven wraps ever. That is where the expert textile engineering of our weavers come into it.

We worked with them for several months last year tweaking the textures, colours and structure of the midnight rainbow prototype to achieve what we currently have. Despite being a double weave, the thread count was reduced so this wrap is very soft, mouldable and wearable from the very first day it lands in your hands.
Picture
With a GSM of approximately 255, the midnight rainbow is very floppy to touch yet very supportive. We then added a steam treatment to this wrap like our other sateen weaves to ensure that the weave is further relaxed and ready to wear.

My review of the Joy & Joe baby SMP Midnight Rainbow woven wrap (100% Egyptian cotton, 250gsm)
By: Hanna Welin (@hannastaaar)

Hi! My name is Hanna. I am 24 years old and I live in Sweden with my husband and our 7 months old baby boy, our dog and cat (Powderpuff and Sphynx).
We started our babywearing journey when our son was one month old because we were inspired by a friend of ours who wears her son, and also it seemed like a great idea to be able to wear our son come winter instead of getting stuck in the snow with our stroller. We started off with a stretchy wrap but quickly swapped it for a MT. Now, we have 2 MT’s, and 3 woven wraps and I have become quite the little wrap addict and I am also a sucker for skull patterns (our first woven was a Lenny Lamb Day of the dead) so you can understand my excitement when we were chosen to test this gorgeous SMP Midnight Rainbow.

When I picked up the wrap from the previous tester my anticipations was really high, my heart was actually racing with excitement as I was already in love with the pattern. I have never even seen a Joy & Joe wrap before so I didn’t know exactly what to expect. What struck me the most when I opened the package was the vibrant colors! Pictures cannot really do them justice and I love the way the sculls stand out. I was really surprised when I took the first photos of it as it looked very shimmery in some of the pictures. I did not see it as shimmery in real life though but the colors really brighten up the room. The bag it comes in is really cute and you could actually use it as a bag in your everyday life since it is a real bag and not “just” a pouch.

The wrap felt amazingly soft and my son cuddled with it right away. He seemed to really like it! We immediately did a quick testwrapping and I was very surprised about the grip it has. It is so soft and feels very nice in your hands but when you start to wrap with it, it holds your baby right in place, it doesn’t slide one bit. That feature also made it very easy to wrap with, I did a kangaroo carry with tie under bum and it was supereasy.

That afternoon I tried my first ever backcarry! I figured it would be a perfect wrap for it considering the bullet proof grip it has and boy was I right. I got my son up on my back and he was sound asleep before I could even finish the tie. I made the seat with ease and the wrap pretty much did the job for me as it held him in place for me during the tie. I finished with a CCCB (candy cane chest belt) and it stayed perfectly in place. I must say I am really proud of myself, my husband wasn’t even there to help and it went so great. I could even untie him when I got tired and rewrap him in a kangaroo front carry instead and he didn’t even wake up. That definitely says something about the sleepydust this wrap comes with. It is flawless!

During my three days I used this wrap a lot. I put all my other wraps aside and went all in with this one and it was up for the task. We did housework, cleaning and such, and we went for walks with the dog both short and longer ones, we used it at bedtime, where the sleepydust came in handy and neither me, nor my husband have had any pain or weariness in our backs/shoulders. I felt a teeny tiny bit in my shoulders after the back carry but I think that has more to do with the fact that I am not used to carry like that. I would also like to add that when you tie it, it stays like that. Exactly like that! I even felt like I could do a simple knot instead of a double knot as a finish (of course I did do a double knot at all times, safety first!).

When I did a stash-shot I took the opportunity to compare it with my Solnce London Soho since that one is also made from 100% Egyptian cotton. I thought they would be quite similar to each other but there are differences. SMP Midnight Rainbow is a bit rougher when you compare them but that also makes it easier to tie with since the grip holds everything in place making the passes easier. And though it’s rougher it still is very, very soft and it is also easy to fold.

I would recommend this wrap for everyone, beginner wrappers or experienced, this wrap is great for all. I do not know how it is for toddlerwearing though, but I can imagine it is good for that too because it made my 7 month 7.7 kilo boy weigh nothing at all. I wore him for hours during our photoshoot and didn’t even feel it. Also the wrap stayed perfectly in place the whole time so I never had to retie which is a big plus in my opinion! It looked great with a pair of jeans and I think it looks great with most color clothes. I mostly wear black and with an all-black outfit this wrap will really pop. It is a real eyecatcher! Oh, and it also looked great with my tattoo!
The last thing we did was having my husband try it out. He loved it just as much as I did and he really liked the support it gave while wearing (and the scull pattern didn’t hurt, haha) and also we took some pictures when I wore it with the odd side out and in my opinion it is just as gorgeous on that side but in a different way. It’s almost like having two wraps in one since the odd side is much darker.
My conclusion is that this is a great wrap and I would recommend it to everyone. We wished we could keep it but sadly it has now flown on to the next tester and we miss it already. Thank you for bearing with me, I know I can get a bit carried away when I’m excited wink emoticon

Here's my review:

Review of the Midnight Rainbow SMP from Joy and Joe Baby, 100% Egyptian Cotton, double sateen weave, 250g/Sq (by Alison Terry @ally_terry82)

I'm Alison, a slightly scatty, 32 year old mother of 3 from the UK. I have 2 sons aged 6 and 4 1/2, and a daughter who is almost 1.

I rarely wore my sons, but used a high street, non - ergonomic carrier when I did and usually only wore them if I needed to go somewhere that was inaccessible with a pushchair.

Whilst I was pregnant with my daughter I bought a stretchy wrap in baby pink as I could finally leave behind the days of blue and diggers smile emoticon

I found baby wearing really helpful in allowing me to get on with housework etc without the accompaniment of a screaming baby - also it kept her out of the reach of her brothers.

My friend decided to start up a local Sling Library and enlisted the help of some local mummies including myself and my daughter in a photo shoot to promote it.

And so I was introduced into the world of woven wraps and haven't looked back since (except when the postman delivers a wrap while my husband is home and I have to spirit it quickly out of sight! !)

I generally use buckles on the school run as it's quick and easy for the transition from the car. The rest of the time I wrap as I find it much more comfortable for longer periods of time.

After joining various groups on Facebook to buy and sell wraps I came across Joy and Joe Baby. I fell in love with the Shiver Me Paisleys design because it's quirky and yet still pretty. I haven't got around to adding one (or several to my stash yet but I plan to). I do own an SMP snood that I bought at Christmas time and I wear it all the time smile emoticon

I joined Instagram specifically to enter the competition to test and review this wrap and was elated when I found out that I had been chosen. I was also pretty nervous as I hate having my photo taken and generally avoid it when at all possible.

Looking at photos of the Midnight Rainbow SMP prior to receiving the tester only got me more excited about its arrival.

So the parcel arrived and when I got to open it (my hubby signed for it whilst I was vacuuming and didn't interrupt me - grrrr!) I could see that the photos of it show it's colours off pretty accurately. I really love the transition between the pink and blue sections (I'm a bit of a pink freak).

I unfolded the wrap and stroked it (I mean, when will I ever get to test a wrap again??)

I liked the way the pattern feels slightly embossed on the fabric and how smooth in contrast the plain bits are. It feels quite thin to me, not that I expected it to be chunky.

I had thought that the 'wrong side' would stand out more than it does, so I stuck to wrapping with the 'right side' on show.

It's my love of the SMP pattern that got this wrap and I together. I really liked the way that the colours fade into and out of each other with thickening/thinning stripes.

The wrap feels thin, soft and smooth, but reassuringly strong.

For my first time wrapping I went for front wrap cross carry (FWCC) and I found it really easy to do. The wrap moulded to my daughter and I really well, and held in place with no effort at all. Even the cross on my back and shoulders looked good with no need for adjustment.

I walked to and from the shop in a short FWCC. My daughter felt very light and secure, and even though we were walking for over an hour my shoulders were totally comfy.
Picture
Picture
When tying off I found it easier to tie knots than with other wraps I've used previously. I also thought that the double knot seemed smaller, which I liked. I also didn't need to readjust or tighten at all which I do sometimes with other wraps.

I decided to have a go at some different carries from my usual go-to's. I tried a Poppin's hip carry and Giselle ' back carry with a chest and waist belt.

I had no problems with the wrap, although I did struggle a bit with my own coordination and my daughter got a tad impatient when she was pinned to my back while I replayed the YouTube video to find out the next pass!

I generally wear jeans or leggings, I rarely wear make up (except when I get fed up of the 'you look tired' comments), and I almost never wear heels. Wearing this wrap made me feel glammed up and I felt more confident whilst out wearing it.

I would be happy to wear it out on my fairly quiet social life (children's birthday parties and parties of family/friends). I think it would be well received and admired.

Basically I want this wrap, I need this wrap and I have everything crossed (including my skull and cross bones!) that I score one in the release smile emoticon

Thank you for taking the time to read my review and thank you to all at Joe and Joe Baby for giving me this opportunity

More photos from our testers, THEIR reviews will soon be ready

My review of the Joy and Joe Shiver me Paisley midnight rainbow.

First of all I would like to thank Joy and Joe for giving me the opportunity to test this Gorgeous wrap.
My name is Laura and I am from the Netherland, I have 3 boy s 1 of 4 years 1 of 2 years and 1 of 6 months as you can imagine wrapping is needed to keep my hands free for my oldest two little monsters smile emoticon .I started wearing when I was just pregnant with my 3rd baby boy and kept on carrying him until I was about 36 weeks, with 39 my baby boy was born so I had a new squishy to wrap and luckily he likes it to .
Comparison of the paisleys :
I think of all the Shiver me Paisleys I have had so far ( Jewel , noir, clematis, auranticao ) this one wraps the nicest and easiest .
I love the colours and the black even though I was hoping for a bit more bright colours on the "wrong side". I got the wrap late in the evening and even my 2 year old that is on a wearing strike for over 4 months wanted to go up smile emoticon so I was already happy . Day 1 I wrapped my baby boy in a poppins hipcarry ( on the belly ) I love the structure of this wrap and on the wrong side the softer wrap I don t think I can compare this with any other smp I have had .
Day 2 I wrapped my baby boy again and he fell asleep before finishing wrapping so he loves it to . Unfortunately I did not get the chance to wrap my 2 year old again as the weather was terrible frown emoticon

About the colours : I hope a little bit smile emoticon that in the final run the colours will be a bit more exploding on the black side smile emoticon then I would be sold.
You already seen my pics but will share them again smile emoticon of course they can be used Bisi and thank you for letting me test this beautiful wrap .

greetings Laura
