Earlier this year, we released four limited edition SMP rainbow wraps and it was well received by everyone. We wove only four at the time because the weaving style we used meant that the weft yarns were alternated manually to create the rainbow effect. So for a couple of months this year we have been working on this new midnight rainbow SMP. Weaving a complex jacquard design like the SMP on a rainbow warp wasn't an easy feat to achieve. You all know that weaving in the UK is also much more expensive but it is much more ethical for us to support the UK weaving industry by using home grown resources that we here at Joy and Joe know you will like. So the midnight rainbow was woven with an innovative strie effect which you will find in some hand woven stripy textiles with a graduated mix of colours. We used a black warp to give the medley of rainbow colours a sophisticated contrast .Hence, the black warp is much more prominent on the other side of this wrap. However, the double weave makes both sides of the wrap wearable. You can wear the other side of the wrap and it'll look like a completely different wrap. So let's just says the midnight rainbow is a wrap full of many pleasant surprises. Almost like you have two wraps in one wrap. With the sateen double weave, you get this silky shinning look that exudes so much beauty. The other side has a textured feel to it but it is not as textured as the SMP Noir/Aurantiaco/Marguerite. Remember that we mentioned that the SMP rainbow is one amazing wrap full of surprises, something else that we discovered is that this wrap is one of the softest double woven wraps ever. That is where the expert textile engineering of our weavers come into it. We worked with them for several months tweaking the textures, colours and structure of the midnight rainbow prototype to achieve what we currently have. Despite being a double weave, the thread count was reduced so this wrap is very soft, mouldable and wearable from the very first day it lands in your hands. With a GSM of approximately 250, the midnight rainbow is very floppy to touch yet very supportive. We then added a steam treatment to this wrap like our other sateen weaves to ensure that the weave is further relaxed and ready to wear. There's so much more to be discovered but we now look forward to hearing more from the midnight rainbow SMP reviewers/testers. Will you like to review or test the midnight rainbow SMP? All you need to do is to re-post the photo below on your instagram page tagging us using #joyandjoetester and please tell us why you would like to test/review our midnight rainbow woven wrap. Review of Joy and Joe jewel and timbre kente wraps: Firstly I would like to start by thanking Bisi for asking me to review both of these beautiful wraps. I had hoped for a kente inspired wrap for a long time. I learned a lot about the rich history behind the kente design over a decade ago, whilst visiting my husbands family in Ghana. I instantly fell in love with the bold geometric designs and bright colours they were often woven in. Luckily for us Bisi at joy and joe also loves the design just as much, and these striking and beautiful wraps are the outcome. First impressions: The right to buy both kente wraps was determined by a random draw, I was extremely lucky to be drawn both times. Confirmation e-mails and invoices were sent out quickly and both wraps were posted promptly. Joy and Joe maintained good communication with me and I experienced all round great costumer service from them. The wraps arrived in pretty joy and joe tote bags, jewels was cream and timbres was black. A few lovely extras were added, such as cookies, a tea bag, key rings a snood plus the babywearing instructions among other leaflets. I also revived a Christmas card with timbre, Which I thought was a lovely touch. Both wraps took me by surprise! The kente jewel was so much more than just a green and white wrap. The dark green areas of the wrap also have black woven through it. This really does give the green a beautiful deep jewel tone to it. It felt quite thick in hand, but definitely not stiff or beastly. It seems like a lot of people worry that the joy and joe double weave will be beastly and need a lot of breaking in, I didn't find this to be the case with kente jewel at all. Next was kente timbre, and surprise surprise, this was also not what I had expected. Instead of the white grey I though it was, there were beautiful light blue threads also woven through it. Timbre felt slightly thinner and stiffer in hand than jewel. This was nothing a wash and some wear didn't fix, and it has puffed up nicely since. I also noticed the textured look the older weaving process used to weave both wraps had given them. This has given then a lovely ethic look. Both wraps were more beautiful in real life than I had imagined them to be. Wrapping qualities: I'm trying to figure out where to start with both of these wraps as both are absolutely wonderful to wrap with. Joy and joes double weave and the older style of weaving used to weave kente really is something else. I'm going to join the gang and rave about how toddler worthy these wraps are..... However, I absolutely would not write these off for younger squishier babies. The stretch and texture of these wraps allows even a sloppy or rushed wrap job to remain secure and comfortable. This can only be a benefit for newer wrappers. In my opinion this wrap does shine more with toddlers and bigger babies. I can comfortably carry my 2 year old for hours, if needed, in these wraps. I've owned many many different wrap brands and can say joy and joe kente comes out up there at the top for toddler support. I'm pretty sure they will be permanent members of my stash. This was my first review. I hope I didn't loose you all through boredom and bad grammar Hopefully you've enjoyed reading In our earlier blog introducing you to our newest weave which is our upcoming weave, we described what the double sateen feels like and the qualities that makes it special.
