We promised you that we will have some gist for you soon. We have been working on this new design and weave for almost a year now and we are now getting closer to unveiling these exciting new designs and weave. For those who are not familiar with our current weaves, we started with a plain weave with an embossed twill effect for our maxi-roses which was our first ever woven wrap. Then we added the bomb proof double weave to our collection. We used this weave for our first collection of shiver me paisleys last year. Can you remember the purple and gold, Jewel , clematis SMPs and others? The plan then was to use a weave structure that will bring out the intricate details of such a complex design in all its glory. Our double weave was met with mixed reviews at the time because it was a completely new weave in the babywearing scenery, imagine a wrap without an odd side and having a double layer which makes it very toddler proof. So it was a wrap that needed some breaking especially the wraps with our hemp-like linen. Based on these feedback, we decided to add a single ply weave to our collection and our sateen weave was born. Our SMP noir was met with an amazing applause, we love the fact that it came with such a beautiful sheen and a uniquely embroidered odd side which added an optimal grip for your woven wrap carry passes. Then our double weave then became quite scarce because we only wove a few wraps with our rock solid double weave in 2013. So we released a few more wraps this year with our double weave with designs such as the elegant kente, celtic tileanna and kente. As our current wraps stock have mostly made their way to their new homes, we then started working on the next design in our archive and we visited the design studio of our other weaving house to discus product development. Close to 30 different weaves were introduced to us and we had samples of each that we had to ponder over and test for a period of 5 months. A certain weave stood out of the rest of the weaves and it is called the double sateen. Wow, chatting with our weavers, we learnt that this is a new weave that combines the qualities of two weave structures that we were already used to (the double weave and the sateen weave). So we were not surprised when we discovered that this new weave is called a double sateen. This compared to other weave structures is one of the most intricate and complex jacquard weaves, not forgetting that it is going to be two ply and the design expertly sandwiched between two single layers.
So around the time we chose our new weave, the sateen weave, we were introduced to a fantastic British artist, Chloe and she had worked on our luceo non uro wraps and we are very excited that she helped us draw one of our new designs as well. Those who came to carryon London event and those following us on instagram had a sneak peak of our upcoming rainbow SMP. This will be woven on this new double sateen weave in addition to the new mystery design that Chloe worked on. This new design is so amazing, magnificent and inspiring. One of the main characters in this design is one of the most revered and admired of the Aves family in our natural world. Chloe worked her magic on this design and added a fantastic artistic concept that we know you will all love. We will tell you more about this mystery design in our next blog post and we will subsequently show you photos when the weaving is completed. Note that we are only weaving prototypes currently. We must not forget to also add that we are currently weaving short runs of some selected colorways and exotic blends in our SMP and kente designs. You will be seeing a couple more ethnic inspired designs like our beloved kente woven wraps in 2015 as well. Please watch out for part two of this gist. If you enjoyed reading our updates, please feel free to share this post and our other Facebook post with your friends. You don't want them to miss out. We often get people telling us that they had no idea when a new design was launched and things like that because facebook restricts visibility of many pages. So lets get the word out there :)
