Thanks for your enquiry. The qualifications I have to advice customers on which baby wraps to choose are numerous even though the primary choice lies with the customer. My baby wraps have been sent to a government laboratory and they passed the rigorous testing procedures required to conform to the BS EN 13209-2:2005 safety standards for soft bay carriers. During the process, asides the safety testing, the laboratory technician provided me with adequate information regarding the mechanics and weight limit of our products-joyandjoebabywraps. They are the same technicians who test for large pushchair companies as well so I trust their procedures. Aside this, I am a qualified member of the BCIA –BABY CARRIER INDUSTRY ALLIANCEhttp://babycarrierindustryalliance.memberlodge.org/Content/Members/MemberPublicProfile.aspx?pageId=722361&memberId=6704954. This organisation doesn’t just take every manufacturer on. They thoroughly inspect your product and scrutinize your manufacturing ethics and then support you from time to time. Recently we’ve secured a complete public and product liability insurance to cover all our baby wraps. So our baby wraps tick all the boxes. However, top of my list as a proper qualification is being a mother of two lovely kids and experienced baby wearer, experts in baby wearing will tell you that African women are the pros when it comes to babywearing especially for the back carries. I feel this qualifies me much more to advice other mums on their choice even though I’ve never advertised myself as babywearing consultant. The information I give out to customers is guided by the babywearing industry standards. What I’ve done is to invest in my product properly and research the market thoroughly. Though in my family, all the women are babywearers, I was particularly drawn to babywearing when my kids passed through the neonatal intensive care wards NICU in 2007 and 2009. One of the major things that saw us through those difficult years and even now is babywearing. I have researched and practised the norms of babywearing, attachment parenting and kangaroo care that even when I meet other mums they are usually impressed about my knowledge and experience. I’m aware that a new enterprise, the school of babywearing now offers formal qualifications for baby wearing consultants and I’m in talks with the owner, Victoria already. I’m a firm believer in learing more from the school of life as every experience, my degrees(I have two degrees in biological sciences )and potentials have prepared me for this field.
